Serving the lowcountry for Three Generations and Counting

Charleston’s Favorite Residential and Commercial Carpet Cleaning Company for Three Generations

In 1944, Herman McGrew drove to Florida to take an exam to become a professional barber. When he found that he was a day early, his ambition and impatience led him to drive back to Charleston, and instead of taking the exam, he started a position with Copleston’s Rug Cleaning downtown.

Our grandfather worked days, nights, and weekends on customers’ requests and after a while, he had earned and saved enough to start his own rug cleaning company. Today, 81 years later, Rebecca McGrew still owns and operates the family business, using the same values her grandpa shared with her.

Adding the Third Generation to the McGrew Title

Rebecca took over the company in 2012 when she added the “3rd Generation” to the title. She also invested in replacing all of the equipment so that she could continue to provide the best carpeting cleaning technology in the industry.

One thing never changes for the McGrew's: they continue offering the best customer service and hard work for every project they take on. Mentored by her father, who was mentored by Grandpa Herman, Rebecca keeps the family legacy alive with each phone call and every rug that they clean.

The Same McGrew Family’s Business Operating Today

When you stop to consider that Grandpa McGrew was brought up in an orphanage after the death of his parents in 1929, he really accomplished some amazing things. In 1941, Herman enlisted in the army, quickly rising to the rank of sergeant.

While serving our country he met Jerri, who eventually became his wife. Herman retired from the army in 1945 and attended college while working at Copleston’s Carpet Company, which led him to open the McGrew family business, which is still family-owned to this day.
